June 9, 2011
How can it be June already? Summer is, by far, my favorite season, but it seems like yesterday I was taking down my Christmas tree and shivering in my sweaters. I guess writing two books a year can make a person fast-forward through the seasons…
My 14th novel, THE BEACH TREES, was released May 3rd and debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #14 and has been hanging on in the top 35 ever since! Thank you so much to my wonderful readers and booksellers who were responsible for making that happen–and to my fabulous publisher New American Library/Penguin Publishing Group for all the behind-the-scenes work required to get the book out there. You’re all my heroes!
I just finished a month-long book tour and met so many of you–truly the best part of my job. I know there were lots of places I couldn’t get to—but keep sending me emails to let me know where you’d like to see me. There’s always next year! And keep checking my appearances schedule (LINK) as I’m always adding events.
Readers always want to know what’s next–and that would be THE STRANGERS ON MONTAGU STREET (the third book in the Tradd Street series) which will be out November 1st of this year. There will most likely be two more books (not in the series) published in 2012–stay tuned to hear more about them.
Until them, stay cool and may your summer be filled with wonderful books!
Happy reading,
Karen

Karen, I love the Tradd Street novels. Can’t wait for the new one. Keep writing great books. Two a year isn’t enough for those of us who read it in a day.

Dear Karen,
I am reading your recent book The Beach Trees and I can not seem to put it down. I am a working mom and being a wife as the same time does not leave me much time for myself. But your writing has intrigued me and I am just so facinated with every written word. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Anjaana– I remember when my kids were younger how hard it was to squeeze in reading time so I definitely appreciate that you choose my books for such precious little free time you must have!
May your summer be will with wonderful books.
Best regards,
Karen

Hi Karen,
I LOVED The House on Tradd Street, just loved the plot, I loved your handling of characters, the development of the protag, the gentle way you revealed the characteristics of the other characters and the side stories that all laced together so well. Your writing shines…your ability to handle the novel is exquisite — so I was understandably dismayed when I read that you’ve moved Mayo Clinic from Rochester, MN to Rochester NY. I really enjoyed learning about Charleston — I’m a Midwesterner by birth — a central Mexican by choice. Putting an icon into a city of the same name, but in another state is an easy mistake to make; unfortunately too many people know Mayo and it’s location. As a writer and editor, trust me when I tell you I’m not chiding you, I HATE making mistakes, but know you’ll want to correct this small error (in the scheme of things) in the next edition/printing/revision/before you mention it in another book. Thanks for writing this book, I’m now heading over to download The Girl on Legare Street and your other books. Really looking forward to them. Judy King

Hi, Judy–
So glad you’ve been enjoying my books!
As to the Mayo thing—I actually caught the error myself during copy edits but somehow the error remained in the advanced reader copies as well as the audio and e-book versions (was one of those the formats you were reading?). I actually have a friend who I knew in college who lives in Rochester, MN and works at the Mayo Clinic—-so I must have been in my own little mental writing cocoon when those words flew from my fingertips! Luckily, I did catch the mistake in time for the print editions—and have no idea why it hasn’t been fixed in the other formats.
The third book in the series, THE STRANGERS ON MONTAGU STREET, will be out November 1, 2011 and there are plans for a 4th book.
Thanks again, and happy reading!
Karen

Yes, Susan–the third book will be out November 1st, 2011 (yes, in 3 months!) and a fourth book, not yet a twinkle in my eye, is tentatively scheduled to be published in the fall of 2013.
